The Original Melton Hunt Cake is a delicious rich quality fruit cake that is made to an exclusive time honoured recipe. It was in 1854 when John Dickinson first began to make this highly respected local delicacy. In all that time neither the recipe nor the method of baking has changed. The cake combines only the finest natural ingredients, of specially selected dried fruit, almonds, butter and eggs enhanced with the distinctive flavour of rum.

As the name implies the cake was originally supplied to members of the Melton Hunt, whose custom was to take a slice of the cake together with a glass of sherry or “stirrup cup” whilst awaiting the start of the hunt. The cake soon gained acclaim throughout the shires being the perfect accompaniment to afternoon tea and enjoyed equally by nobility, clergy and gentlefolk as an after dinner dessert.
